Tuvalu - that's the name of the island that the main characters dream of as a place of refuge. A dream that seems unlikely to come true, given the fact that they are cut off from the outside world in a run-down and largely abandoned swimming pool. Denis Lavant ("Les Amants du Pont Neuf") plays the downtrodden younger son of the swimming pool owner, and he tries very hard to maintain the illusion that this amazing pile of rubble of a building is still a thriving business. In reality, there are hardly any swimmers, and those who come pay literally in buttons. In the meantime, his unscrupulous older brother is trying to bring about the final ruin of the business so that the building can be demolished and the site redeveloped.
