Julian (Bryce Gheisar) is an outsider and fights for recognition at his school. When he is expelled from school after an incident with his classmate, his grandmother (Helen Mirren) takes the incident as an opportunity to tell him her own story of courage. During her youth in Nazi-occupied France, a boy saves her from deadly danger and hides her in the barn of his farm. There the two create their own breathtaking, magical world - and find their first love. Meanwhile, the boy's mother (Gillian Anderson) risks everything to keep her hiding place from being discovered.
