Turin, 1938. Sixteen-year-old Ginia sees the future as offering endless possibilities, but the Second World War casts its shadow over the present. In search of adventure, she begins an exciting affair with a painter. Amelia, a sensual and provocative girl of the same age, introduces Ginia to the dazzling artistic circles of Turin's bohemians. Torn between a sense of duty and desire, during her "beautiful summer" she gives in to her feelings and finds the courage to be herself.
