The "Soirée d'été" kicks off the 2024 cultural event with Broadway and jazz classics and great Basel voices from rap, pop and electro swing, who will take the audience on a musical journey through time together with the Soirée house band.The youngest in the group, rapper and singer SVMTHOX (seəmθʌks), has been placing her messages in the music ether in an honest, funny, socially critical and energetic way since her debut "Rules" (2020). With as much rapping skills as velvet in her voice and her "(T)Rap Soul", a careful mix of Missy Elliott, Ms. Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu, the multilingual artist impresses on ever larger stages and we are delighted to be able to experience her great voice in jazz garb.Singer and composer Anna Gosteli has been giving us goosebumps with her beautiful, clear timbre for many years: until 2014 with "The Bianca Story", now with her current formation "Kid Empress". She also finds young fans with the musical children's stories "Dr Schnuu und sini Tierli", works for television productions, teaches singing and gives band workshops. She also studied jazz at the beginning of her career and we are delighted that we can now hear her in this genre on the cultural stage.The third in the round, Arbajo Jairus, is a painter and multilingualist and, like SVMTHOX, creates his very own sound worlds in rap. He writes, composes, arranges and raps for Utopia - with his English lyrics and sometimes to the beats of the Basel producer "Meister Lampe". In the autumn he will launch his album in the Basel market hall with a live band and we are delighted that he will be giving some jazz tunes a new colour beforehand with the Soirée band.The fourth guest is William Bejedi. The frontman of the Swiss electro band Klischée has been on international stages as a singer, MC and percussionist for over 20 years and gets even the most reserved audience dancing. He also brings his experience to projects that blur the boundaries between live performance, dance, music and film and has already received various awards with his partner Brigitte Fässler and the dance film series "cubique presents". He has already performed on major stages such as the Montreux Jazz Festival, Open Air St. Gallen, Gurten Festival, Fusion Festival (DE) and Festival Mundial (NL) – we are all the more delighted to now see him in the intimate setting of the Kulturtreppe together with SVMTHOX, Anna Gosteli and Arbajo Jairus.The four will be accompanied on their journey into jazz by the Soirée house band, consisting of Stefania Chiara (voc), Pio Schürmann (piano), Marco Nenniger (bass), George Ricci (sax, clarinet) and Florian Haas Schneider (drums).
