"I have always been fascinated by songbirds. Perhaps it was thanks to them that I discovered my other passion - music, singing," says Stephan Urfer today, looking back on his aborted singing career.
As an animal-loving teenager, he did an apprenticeship as a pet shop salesman. During this time, he also began taking singing lessons. Stephan went singing four times a week at lunchtime and at the age of 19 he gave his first concert. This continued until he almost ended up at one of the most prestigious music schools in the world in New York. But then he had an unexpected encounter in downtown Manhattan that changed everything. Stephan Urfer completely changed his life plan, went to university and focused entirely on theology - but this did not answer his questions either. He retreated to a monastery in Ireland and began to write down his thoughts. This resulted in a novel about his own search for meaning. With a surprising ending.
