In the Habsburg monarchy, people didn't just go on holiday, they went on summer vacations. A week-long vacation in the country, by the lake or by the sea was not uncommon back then. Nobles and wealthy upper middle classes combined the advantages of idyllic nature with urban conviviality. The Salzkammergut, Lake Wörthersee, Trieste and Abbazia are just some of the dream destinations of the time.
