In the tradition of his sensationally exciting and strange classics "Blue Velvet" and "Twin Peaks", cult director David Lynch returns with MULHOLLAND DRIVE to the atmosphere of madness and secrets beneath the smooth surface of everyday life. It was well known that nothing in Los Angeles is as it seems - but what Lynch finds in MULHOLLAND DRIVE when he looks into the hellish City of Angels will throw even the most hardened fan off track, because never in Lynch's film have morbid tension and black humor, cracked reality and phantasmagoric centrifugal force collided as fascinatingly as in this one. The thriller begins with a mysterious beauty who calls herself Rita (Laura Elena Harring) and who has lost her memory after a horrific accident. By chance, the friendly and naive Betty Elms (Naomi Watts) comes to her aid, having just flown in from Canada to become nothing less than a star. But while fate brings the two apparently very different women ever closer together and they delve ever deeper into the underground of the present in search of the past, the ground of reality is also being torn from under the feet of others. A fatalistic nightmare and a poorly talented contract killer will cross the women's path, as will a successful director (Justin Theroux), whose fantastic life is destroyed within hours by his bizarre financiers. The answer to all the riddles may be known by a menacing man in the background who calls himself only "Cowboy" (Monty Montgomery) - but perhaps the threads of the web also converge on the client in the wheelchair, who seems to be the only one with power over black monsters and blue keys to forbidden rooms and dreams. But wherever the truth is hidden in the crescendo of suspense - it is not of this world, possibly...
