A moving and superbly acted debut that takes a look at the consequences of discriminatory child protection laws in the USA.

Gia is pregnant. For the third time already. But her joyful anticipation is mixed with concern; she fears that her child could be taken away from her. Her first two children already live with foster families because Gia lost custody as a drug addict. The chances of things going differently this time are modest. Because despite her rehab and her part-time job, the judge will probably place the newborn in the care of a foster family. But Gia is determined to fight against the system and stand up for her children.

EARTH MAMA is the feature film debut of British director Savanah Leaf. With her sensitive coming-of-age drama, she impressively shows the structural discrimination against black women in the USA. The film captivates with intelligent dialogues, great actresses and wonderful imagery.
