In 1994, while the AIDS epidemic was raging and he was still a young teenager, Mathias Howald came across a television documentary about the AIDS epidemic. dedicated to to « patchworks of names » : rectangles made from scraps of fabric that the relatives of the victims sew to illustrate and honor the memory of their deaths.
