CASINO ROYALE shows JAMES BOND before he gets his license to kill. But even without this status, Bond is no less dangerous, and after two successful eliminations in quick succession, he is promoted to "00" agent.
Bond's first 007 mission takes him to Madagascar, where he is to spy on the terrorist MOLLAKA (Sebastien Foucan). But not everything goes according to plan and Bond decides to investigate on his own and without MI6 in order to track down the rest of the terrorist cell. Bond follows a lead that leads him to the Bahamas, where he meets DIMITRIOS (Simon Abkarian) and his girlfriend SOLANGE (Caterina Murino). Bond finds out that Dimitrios is in cahoots with LE CHIFFRE (Mads Mikkelsen), the banker of a global terrorist organization.
The secret service finds out that Le Chiffre is trying to win a large sum of money for his organization by playing poker at the Casino Royale in Montenegro. But to get the urgently needed money, Le Chiffre has to risk a high stake. MI6 orders 007 to play against him in the poker game - because if Le Chiffre loses, it would destroy his entire organization.
"M" (Judi Dench) assigns Bond the seductive VESPER LYND (Eva Green) as a partner so that she can keep a watchful eye on him. After Bond is initially more than skeptical about whether Vesper can be of any use to him in his mission, his relationship with her deepens after they both fall into Le Chiffre's hands and have to survive great danger and ultimately even torture together.
In Montenegro, Bond allies himself with MATHIS (Giancarlo Giannini), the local MI6 agent, and FELIX LEITER (Jeffrey Wright), who represents the interests of the CIA. The marathon poker game takes its course with dirty tricks and violence. The stakes are driven to dizzying heights until in the end it's about much more than blood money...
