Kanneh-Mason plays Beethoven
Julius Eastman's second symphony THE FAITHFUL FRIEND: THE LOVER FRIEND'S LOVE FOR THE BELOVED is inspired by a parable of two people embracing that Eastman observed on the streets of New York. Musically, it is peppered with ritualistic rhythms and a large ensemble of wind instruments.
Beethoven's Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 4 in G major op. 58 merges piano concerto and symphonic work like no other work in music history, and does so skillfully without losing a virtuoso part for the pianist. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is said to have never heard his 40th Symphony performed himself, which is a shame - it has now become one of his most famous. A wonderful work to guide us cheerfully through the symphonic summer break.
