Who knows Cyprien Tokoudagba, Sungi Mlengeya or Joy Labinjo?
Although the art of black artists has gained importance in the last decade, it is still greatly underrepresented in museums.
The Kunstmuseum Basel is now counteracting this shortcoming and is highlighting 100 years of pan-African figurative painting with "When We See Us". The show was conceived by the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa in Cape Town.
