Bong Joon-ho, KR/CZ 2013a
Apocalypse on the express train: fascinating, clever and visually impressive science fiction cinema with a star cast. Produced by Park Chan-wook.
In the year 2031: After a failed attempt to stop global warming, the earth sinks into a new ice age. The few survivors gather in a 650 meter long train that races through the icy desert - without ever stopping. A strict class society exists within the train. The large masses live in miserable conditions in the back of the train, while a small, rich minority enjoys their luxury in the front carriages. But a revolutionary mood is spreading among the passengers. The young leader Curtis (Chris Evans) and his colleague Edgar (Jamie Bell) are planning an uprising to overthrow Wilford (Ed Harris), the inventor and ruler of the train.
Based on the graphic novel “Le Transperceneige”, South Korean director Bong Joon-ho (PARASITE, THE HOST) in collaboration with Park Chan-wook has created an intelligent and virtuoso science fiction film that deals with themes such as class struggle, decadence and climate change.
