Fi­de­lio

Beethoven's impressive work evokes love of humanity and humanism and is dedicated to the most important basic social needs: freedom and human rights. "Fidelio" is his only opera, composed entirely in the spirit of the French Revolution. It comes to Winterthur in a semi-staged version.

Since he was captured and abducted by his political opponents, there has been no trace of Florestan. The worst is to be feared, but his wife Leonore believes he is alive. She pretends to be Fidelio and works in the prison where she suspects her husband is. Her suspicion soon turns out to be certain, but how is she supposed to free him? Both a help and a burden to her is Marzelline, the daughter of the jailer Rocco, who has fallen in love with the supposed young man Fidelio...

With the orchestra of the Musikkollegium Winterthur on stage, the ensemble performs in a scenically concentrated production that tells the play in a visually captivating way with few resources.
