With Bienvenue! In spring 2024, the Kunst Museum Winterthur will celebrate the long-awaited return of Hedy and Arthur Hahnloser's unique collection to Villa Flora. After ten years, the masterpieces are returning and will be on display in a new exhibition circuit in the extensively renovated collector's house.
The tour traces the emergence of French modernism with works from the Hahnloser Collection as well as selected loans: from impressionism and post-impressionism, to representatives of the Nabis artist group and the so-called Fauves. In addition to well-known pioneers such as Vincent van Gogh and Paul Cézanne, works by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, Édouard Manet and Auguste Renoir as well as groups of works by the Hahnloser artist friends around Pierre Bonnard, Félix Vallotton, Odilon Redon and Henri Matisse are presented. Sculpture will also be represented with a significant selection, including Auguste Rodin and Aristide Maillol.
The exhibition marking the reopening of Villa Flora allows visitors to experience the avant-garde of the turn of the century in rare density and quality. The Winterthur pioneering spirit for French modernism, in particular the extraordinary commitment of Hedy and Arthur Hahnloser, can be experienced anew at the place where the first-class collection was created.
